The dogs are coming, the dogs are coming!
Afghans, basenjis, bichon frise, borzoi, Boston terriers, Carin terriers, Dalmatians, springer spaniels, bulldogs, retrievers, sheepdogs, Swiss mountain dogs … and so many more will descend on the O.C. Fair & Event Center for a two-part dog show this weekend.
More than 1,300 dogs are registered to take the rings from Friday through Monday under sunny, warm skies.
The American Kennel Club-sanctioned event is co-hosted by the Shoreline Dog Fanciers Association of Orange County and the Malibu Kennel Club.
Jill Dougan, a Newport Beach resident and vice president of Shoreline, said more than 18 breed experts from around the country will be in the rings to judge canine form.
“It’s a great family event that gives everyone the opportunity to meet all kinds of dogs,” she said.
The show also will feature dozens of vendors and plenty of entertainment for visitors, Dougan said.
Many of the dogs recently showed at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship in Long Beach, which ended Sunday. A surprise winner, an Australian shepherd named Reckon, won best in show.
- Judging will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., indoors at three buildings on the fairground property.
- Admission is free but general parking will cost $5. Premium parking (closer to the gates) will be available for $8.
- Family pets that are not registered in the show are not allowed on the fairgrounds property, so please leave Fido at home if he’s not participating.
- Enter at Gate 8.
